Bedroom Design Trends - Make Your Bedroom Look Like A Five-Star Hotel

Author: James Higgins

Our bedrooms are our dens. A place of refuge where we rest after a long day, a place where we dream, and if we’re lucky, a place where we spend quality time with our significant other.

Most of us spend a third of our lives sleeping in our bedrooms, and there is no greater way of improving the quality of our sleep than having a bedroom designed where we long to retire at the end of the day.

There is nothing more appealing than a 5-star hotel bedroom design that always manages to feel luxurious. From the beds that feel like fluffy clouds to the sheets that make you want to burrow yourself.

If you’re looking for a bedroom makeover, here are some bedroom interior design ideas to have your personal space looking like it came out of a luxury travel magazine!

Start With Sheets

One thing that all luxury hotels have in common - they do not skimp on sheets. The centrepiece of your bedroom is your bed, and sheets are an integral part of that.

Pick an eco-friendly, sustainably produced material with a high thread count for the quickest way to a striking bedroom. But beware of bedding claiming high thread counts!

Traditionally, thread counts were used to determine the quality of bedding.

However, this is no longer so. Imaginative manufacturers have found ways to exploit loopholes and inflate the thread count artificially.

The thread count is the number of strands that are woven together in a square inch. For example, 200 threads (length) woven into 200 threads (width) will result in a thread count of 400.

However! A “ply” is a fiber that can be combined into a single thread. For example, 2-ply means a thread is made up of 2 smaller threads that are woven together. Hence, a 2-ply, 200 thread count sheet is, in fact, only 100 threads.

The only time the thread count matters are on single-ply fabrics.

Use Only Warm Lighting

Most modern bedroom designs make clever use of lights to portray different moods.

Pick your primary lights carefully and install dimmers on everything for maximum control over the mood you’ll want to achieve. Ensure to have multiple switches available for the lights that give you control at the entry and on both sides of the bed.

Almost all hotel rooms have lamps that provide soft, warm lighting on bedside tables. This helps provide a warm and cosy feel and avoids the constant use of stronger, more functional overhead lighting.

Pendant lights hung above bedside tables can give a more modern feel than traditional standing lamps.

Floor standing lamps that illuminate reading areas can complement stronger LED lights for desks.

Cove lighting is built into the ledges or walls of the room that directly lights the ceiling. It can be installed under beds, wardrobes, or side tables to give the room a more romantic feel.

Pepper the bedroom and bathroom generously with adjustable task lights that allow for more illumination when you’re working on a specific task like reading, applying makeup, or working.

Pick Your Colors Carefully

There are thousands of paint colors available, but only seven primary colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. So start by eliminating what you don’t want and working on the color scheme you do want.

Select about four colors from sample strips and choose one for your wall, reserving the rest for use in furnishings and accessories.

After selecting the colors, consider the finishing as well. Modern paints have increased stain resistance and other different finishes, while eggshell finishes are best suited to walls. Glossy finishes can be used on wall trim or panels of doors to accentuate any curves or edges.

Use Premium Electronics

Decide whether you want a television in your room and if you do, pick a set that is the maximum size for the optimal viewing from the bed, couch, or wherever you are going to watch.

Install some high-quality wireless speakers that you can sync with your phone or laptop. Pick speakers appropriate for the size of your room. Buying one too powerful will lead to distorted sound quality, while one that’s too small will sound weak and hollow.

Closet Space

First, start by organizing your closet and decluttering, which will give you a better idea of how much space you’ll need.

Use only premium wood or velvet-coated hangers and avoid the cheap plastic or wired hangers. They will look way better and won’t break under the weight of heavier items like coats and jackets.

Use generic baskets to store any miscellaneous items like gym accessories and purses.

Have a full-length mirror installed near the closet or on the door. A light in the closet that automatically turns on when the door opens is a nice finishing touch.

Have A Window To The Bathroom

A large see-through window that separates the room from the bathroom is a common feature in most hotel rooms.

Play around with different lighting and colors of blinds to get the desired effect.

Try to get as much natural light into the bathroom and, if possible, even have an outdoor area.

Use Paintings, Murals or Headboards

Right above the bed is usually the best real estate in the room, and the first thing that catches the eye after the bed.

The wall art you choose for the bedroom can instantly transform the look. Heavy textures can enhance the room’s elegance, while paintings can add colour and personality.

Accessorize!

Just like jewellery, accessories can inject elements of our personalities into our living spaces.

Experiment with flowers, potted plants, baskets, throws, floor rugs, and different lights to switch it up and inject a little bit of “you” into your room.

Conclusion

For many, our bedrooms are the most paramount spaces in our homes. We hope these few tips have helped you with ideas for your future bedroom, and optimizing this vital living space!
